Commitment
The future of
humanity depends on our ability to develop in a sustainable way. The UN
NGO Committee on Sustainable Development advocates
sustainable development as defined in Agenda 21, the 2002 Johannesburg
Plan of Implementation and the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
We support the integration of the three components of sustainable development
— economic development, social development and environmental protection
— as interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars.The Committee seeks to build understanding of how the different parts of the United Nations system promote sustainable development.
We participate in relevant meetings and conferences of the United Nations, in particular the UN Commission on Sustainable Development. We also organize and host regular lunchtime lectures and seminars at UN Headquarters in New York.
We cooperate with the UN Commission on Sustainable Development, UN Environment Programme, UN Development Programme, World Health Organization, World Bank, Global Environment Facility, World Trade Organization, UNESCO, UN Foundation, The NGOs, think tanks, academia, and other relevant groups to interact in the area of sustainable development.
